Muse-A-While Ranch
In 1935, Muse purchased over 100 acres of land in Perris, California. He won the complete deed 14 years later after the other owner went through a messy divorce.
Originally a humble concrete house and detached garage, Clarence continuously added to the house.
Many actors and entertainers spent Labor Day weekend of 1938 at this ranch, grilling hot dogs, playing softball, and posing for photographs.
During WWII, Clarence raised hogs and chickens at the ranch to supply the army with eggs.
In 1948, Muse opened his ranch to the public as a vacation spot for African Americans. It offered horseback riding, hunting, swimming, tennis, golf, archery, and hiking. There were various cottages for overnight guests. The ranch became popular due to the nearby lake, Lake Elsinore, being one of the few California places where African Americans could enjoy a lake at that time in history.
